Using Your Extras

A list of preferred providers can be found here.  We allow you to use any registered optometrist, dentist, physiotherapist or podiatrist in Australia. For other health care services such as chiropractic, massage, etc, benefits are paid for treatment by registered practitioners in private practice and recognised natural therapists approved by TUH.

TUH offers multiple ways to claim your extras benefit, including electronic claiming services, the mobile app and online.  Any account or receipt submitted must be on an official documentation and include the provider number.

An extras out-of-pocket cost is the difference between the amount a service provider charges and the benefit we pay. For example, if a physiotherapist charges $70 for a visit and we pay a benefit of $40, the out-of-pocket cost would be $30.

Visiting a preferred provider may reduce the out-of-pocket costs you are required to pay.

At TUH we offer an Active Health Bonus as a reward for completing an online health assessment. Members on combined hospital and extras products (excluding Basic Extras) can use this bonus to pay for out-of-pocket costs for extras treatments, up to the annual limit.

We pay an Active Health Bonus to members who complete the Health-e-Profile every 12 months and are on a combined hospital and extras cover (except with Basic Extras).

The dental treatments covered by the policy depend on the item number and some procedures may be excluded.  Major dental services, orthodontics and anti-snore devices are covered under certain extras policies. Benefits for orthodontic treatment are subject to annual and lifetime limits and require in-person consultation with a registered orthodontist.
